Galapagos Land Basis

1st day: Quito – flight – Galapagos: Baltra & Tortuga Bay

After breakfast transfer to the airport in order to take your Aerogal flight to the Galapagos. Depart 08h20. Arrive in Baltra at 10h20. Upon disembarking from the airplane, you will go to the Galapagos immigration area. (Here you will need to present your passport and pay your US$100 Galapagos National Park fee.) Once the Park officials have completed the check-in you exit the immigration area and you will be greeted by your guide and transferred to Puerto Ayora, to your hotel. Room assignment and Lunch. Afterwards, we will take an excursion to the most beautiful beach in Galapagos, Tortuga Bay. A 45 minutes walk (five km) west from Puerto Ayora on a marked and cobbled path. The path is good for birdwatching, it is easy to spot several species of finches as you walk along the path. The sunsets here are excellent. There is a swimming area and a nice spot for relaxing. The white sand beach is considered by many the nicest of the archipelago. It name comes from the sea turtles that go there to lay their eggs. Other species can be found, including pelicans, flamingos and marine iguanas. Return to the Hotel. Diner and overnight.

2nd day: Galapagos: Floreana Is.

This is one of the islands with the most interesting human history and one of the earliest to be inhabited. Pink flamingos and green sea turtles nest from December to May on this island. The "joint footed" petrel is found here, a nocturnal sea bird which spends most of its life away from land. We will visit Champion Bay and Endervy, both great places for snorkeling. Then we continue to “Devil's Crown”, an underwater volcanic cone, coral formations are found. After Lunch we continue to Puerto Velasco Ibarra, were we will have an historic introduction of this Island. We will take a “Chiva” to see the Galapagos turtles in their natural habitat. When still known as Charles Island in 1819, Floreana Island was set alight by a sailor from the Nantucket whaling ship the Essex. On the same voyage one year later the Essex was sunk by a massive bull sperm whale. We will see: penguins, sharks, sea lions, foot blue boobies, gulls forked line, frigates, marine iguanas. Then return to the Hotel. Diner and overnight.

3rd day: Galapagos: Sail to Santa Fe Is & Garrapatero .

Santa Fe is an island located between the larger islands of Santa Cruz and San Cristobal. The visitor site is a wet landing located in Barrington Bay on the northeastern side of the island. Large numbers of sea lions are found on the beaches in the bay, and visitors may find themselves navigating around sleeping cows and pups in order to get to the two trails leading from the beach. Here you will have the opportunity to see the endemic Santa Fe land iguana (Conolophus palidus), yellower and with more definite spines on its back than the other species found in alapagos (Conolophus subcristatus). Santa Fe also has giant Opuntia cactus forest, endemic rice rats, the Galapagos hawk and a walk to a cliff top from which there are beautiful views over the bay In the afternoon we will vist Garrapatero beach. El Garrapatero is a wide bay with multiple sandy beaches. Behind the beach is an area with a fresh water lake where you can come across pink flamingos, herons, grebes, stilts and other shore birds.

4th day: Galapagos: Charles Darwin Station – Isabela Is

After breakfast, we will visit the Charles Darwin Research Station staffed with international scientists doing biological research and conservation projects. This is one of the best places to see land tortoises, including Lonely George, the last survivor of his subspecies. We will also visit the station's Tortoise Rearing Center. Later, see a more civilized side of Galapagos and stroll through the town of Puerto Ayora to buy souvenirs, mail postcards and absorb some local flavor in the social heart of the Islands.
After Lunch we will travel by speed boat for approximately three and half hours to Isabela Is. arriving at the San Vicente Hotel for a short rest. We will then visit the Flamingo Lagoon, the largest coastal lagoon in Galapagos and a principal breeding ground for the Flamingos. Dinner and accommodations.

5th day: Isabela Is. Sierra Madre Volcano, Chico Volcano, Tintoreras

Early in the morning after breakfast, we will begin our full day tour (including a box lunch) to the Sierra Negra Volcano, located 13 miles from Puerto Villamil. Boasting the world’s second largest volcanic crater measuring 6 miles in diameter and 300 feet deep. We will ride horses up to this magnificent site to visit La Bocanilla and Volcan Chico.
In the afternoon we will sail to “Islote Tintoreras,” a large crevice with very clear, calm water in which white-tip sharks (“tintoreras”) rest daily on the bottom. We can also see Penguins, Sea Lions, marine Iguanas and snorkel with sharks and colorful tropical fishes while enjoying the beaches of Isabela. Dinner and accommodations.

6th day: Isabela Is. Transfer to Santa Cruz Is. – Baltra Is. Flight – Quito

Early in the morning after breakfast, we will return by speed boat to Puerto Ayora where a guide will be waiting for you. Then you will visit the highlands of Santa Cruz to see the Galapagos Tortoises in their natural habitat. Then he will take you to Baltra Is. to the airport in order to take your Aerogal flight to Quito. Departure at 12h00. Arriving in Quito at 16h00. Transfer to your hotel.
